Despite appalling weather conditions, a number of hardy characters braved the snow and hills in the “Cobbles of Halifax” pre-Flanders tribute to the Gent Wevelgem Belgian Classic on 24th March.
Organiser Michael Vennard was forced to modify the route with some of the cobbled climbs so reminiscent of much of the route of the Belgian Spring classic parcours were impassable.
Instead it was only possible to use main road and well used sections of road.

The post ride Frites and Belgian beer at Michael’s was well earned after a day of icy winds. Hopefully the 2nd deition next year will enjoy proper spring weather and a larger field.
The idea for the ride was based on Saddleworth Calrion’s excellent L’enfer du Saddleworth event.
