Carolyn with John after completing the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride |
CLUBWOMAN OF THE YEAR : Carolyn Stead
Carolyn has been instrumental in increasing the number of female members in Calder Clarion from a handful in 2010 to 19 in 2015.
Back in 2005 Calder only had a handful of women riding as “social members”. Now most female members ride regularly on club rides and take part in club events and Sportives.
The increase in active female cyclists has been achieved by Carolyn’s hard work and enthusiasm. She has established regular women’s rides on Thursday evenings throughout the year. The rides are now listed on the club website, including route maps and gpx downloads for the 2016, created by Carolyn.
There is now a ladies page on the club website, put together by Carolyn and designed by her co organiser Clare Plumstead. The page promotes all activities that the club undertakes for women.
In 2015 Carolyn achieved a Calder gold standard award for her average speed in a charity sportive, The ‘Ride to Bridlington’. She has also ridden the Sportive associated with the 2015 Tour de Yorkshire, The Great Yorkshire Bike Ride and the Pontefract Hospice charity ride.
