Hatfield Jaguar held a Jaguar-Velo weekend on 2nd/3rd February at their showroom on Denby Dale Road. This was for the launch of the XF Sportsbrake Jaguar model which is said to be the optimum car for cyclists.
Along with Wakefield Junior Triathlon Club, Cycle Technology and Watt Bike, Calder Clarion had a display desk at the exhibition which was looked after mainly by Martin Price, but also by other club members.
The Watt Bikes proved to be a big hit. These bikes give a realistic feel and are used by Team GB and Team Sky. Alastair McDonald, an accredited Watt Bike instructor and member of Wolverhampton Wheelers had set them up for anyone to have a go at a 750 metres race against 2 others or a maximum power test over 6 seconds. There was a big screen that recorded maximum and average speeds, power, cadence and heart rate.
The fastest 750 metre ride over the weekend collected a £75 voucher from Watt Bike.
Early contenders for the voucher on Saturday were Jonathon Lancaster (nearest camera) and Martin Price, seen above with Danny Haigh (Cycle Technology) looking on from the background while recovering from pretty nifty 750 metres effort earlier. Jonathon who had called in to take a look at Calder Clarion is organising a charity ride this summer from London to Monacco.
On Sunday, Jonny Croston and Michael Vennard competed in the Policelli Hill Climb near Stockport before joining the later stages of the Sunday Club Run to ride back to Hatfield Jaguar to have a tilt for the voucher.

On the 6 second maximum Power test, all four were around 1000 watts and in the 750 metres, though Tom Butler had 3 tests to achieve a 1000 plus watt output.
Michael edged out his team mates with the fastest time and took home the £75 voucher.
