Go-Ride Track and Turf Part 1. Bradford

Ashton leads Douglas into a tight bend with Elizabeth and Stanley coming up behind them
The first round of the Calder Clarion Turf and Track race series took place at Bradford’s Richard Dunn circuit on Sunday 21st June.
22 riders of all ages competed to score points in a prologue time trial and age category scratch races. The races were held under British Cycling’s entry level Go Ride Racing programme, which aims to encourage riders to have a taste of competitive racing.
The races were very close in all the categories, and a ride off was required to separate the adult riders before Mark Rodgers emerged victorious just pipping teenager Megan Hoyle to the gold medal spot. Other honourable mentions go to Joseph Rooney – who won the under 12s at a canter – and Daniel James who won the under 8s despite being covered in blood and bandages from TWO accidents before the racing even started!
Congratulations to all the young riders who were competing on two wheels for the first time at a rather windy and cold track – and to all the parents and other spectators who toughed it out, fortified by tea and cakes. Thanks go to Martin Price who organised the series.
The next, and final, round is on Sunday 12th July. This will be the Calder Cyclo Cross and Family Day at Thomas a Becket’s school, Sandal.
There will be awards for the racing on the day, as well as for performance in the overall series. Riders of all ages and abilities are very welcome to come along for some fun racing. You don’t need a cyclo-cross bike, a mountain bike or a hybrid will be fine.
There will be a barbeque and other refreshments at the meeting. We hope to see everyone there, including the club run riders after their rides.
