Go-Ride Racing Success

Daniel tackles the Cleckheaton mud on his way to 6th place
in the Yorkshire Schools Association Regional event.

Douglas and Daniel James have been competing in Go-Ride Road Races and Cyclo Cross with some success over the winter and spring.

Douglas finished 2nd in the Yorkshire Cyclo Cross Association Round 2 Under 8s race at Newsome, Huddersfield, just 6 seconds behind his nemesis Danny Deavin (Pedalsport CC) and 20 seconds clear of 3rd placed finisher William Huddleston (Huddersfield Star Wh).

In a very muddy under 9 Yorkshire Schools Regional Cyclo Cross Championships at Cleckheaton, Douglas came in a very creditable 8th place, up against some riders two years older than him. Daniel James, also riding against older boys in the Under 7 championship finished with a splendid 6th.

In the Wakefield Thornes Park round of the YCCA cyclo cross series, Douglas finished 5th in the U8 race, with Jack Cook 10th, Ella Brooks Cook 6th in the U8 girls race. Daniel Price, racing against older boys in the U8 race came in 16th with fine rides from Sam Lister, Louis Audain and Matthew Tomlinson.


At Temple Newsome, Megan Hoyle was 4th in the U12 girls with Douglas James 4th in the U8 boys. Ella Brooks-Cook was 6th in the girls U8s and Daniel James, Daniel Price, Jamie Milsom and Louis Audain finishing well up the field in their races.

Megan Hoyle has gone on to score some road race podium places, at Bradford and Sheffield, including a first place. Jack Cook and Ella Brooks-Cook both achieved podium places in their respective races at the prestigious Doncaster Town Centre races. Not to be outdone Douglas James has also enjoyed success in road races.




Megan has established a girl’s 10 mile time trial record on the club’s Hemsworth-Upton course this season with 34.34. Jack O’Boyle holds the boys record of 33.33 which he recorded in 2013.

These riders and others in the Calder Clarion Go-Ride squad are training every Thursday evening at Thomas a Becket College, Sandal where coaches Martin Price and Tom Butler are developing the kids bike handling skills, cadence, fitness, techniques, etiquette and tactics. 


On 13th July, they will all be competing in one of British Cycling Go-Ride Tour de France Legacy events taking place at Thomas a Becket College. Details of races and entry details here.
