Calder’s Kevin Watson on the Woolley Edge Climb

Owen Mitton (Huddersfield RC regained his Open Calder Hill Climb title on Woolley Edge, completing the 1200 metres 17% climb in 2:53.1 Owen is famous in Calder Clarion circles after falling in the Calder and Hebble Canal while guesting on a Calder club run and also later at a club dinner when he presented Ian Steeper with a Gentleman’s Ball scratcher !!!. 
He won the event in 2008, but was narrowly beaten ( 1.6 seconds) by Holme Valley Wheeler’s Stephen Robinson last year. 


This year, Michael Richmond (Wakefield Triathlon), turning a huge gear, seemingly effortlessly, got within 5 seconds of
the winner. Feathersone Road Club riders John Nicholson and Anthony Jones filled the next two places.


The Calder Hill Climb Championship winner was Matthew Dodsworth. Despite having a 7 seconds winning margin over a valiant Martin Price, Matthew went down the hill and repeated the climb as an unofficial test. Michael Vennard took 3rd place.
