Paul Wilson – Motor Neuron Disease

Paul Wilson following Alan Sturgess & Paul Gittins in the 1972 Askern 3 up TT in 1972

My name is Solange Wilson and I live in Liversedge. I am asking if Calder Clarion can help me in any way.

My husband was Paul Wilson who was a member of Calder Clarion, as was his father, Thomas Wilson before him. They lived in Ossett. Paul would have been 66, so I don’t know if any of your older members would remember him.

Paul died in 2009 from Motor Neuron Disease. Before he died he was a firefighter, he cycled, enjoyed skiing, jogging and was very fit and active.

Many people are unfamiliar with M.N.D. This disease allows sufferers to maintain complete mental awareness while their body shuts down making them unable to do anything including breathing and eating unaided.

My son James, who is a scuba diver in the Orkneys, is cycling from there back home in November,500 miles in 5 days.

He hopes to raise funds for research. The money will go to the MND Reasearch Centre in Sheffield.

We are having a fun evening in Birstall on 28th November to celebrate Paul and to raise funds. We have an auction of various goods donated.

I wonder if there is any way you could support us? WE do have a donated support van for the ride but need sponsorship for the petrol but any help would be appreciated.
