Calder Clarion’s young Go-Ride cyclists put on a great display for their first ever competitive event, Wakefield Triathlon’s Cyclo Cross meeting in Thornes Park , Wakefield on the 22nd September.
Calder had representatives in the Under 8s, Under 10s, and the Under 12s categories. Utilising the skills and fitness they have developed from their weekly Thursday evening Go-Ride coaching sessions at St Thomas a Beckett School in Sandal conducted by coaches Tom Butler, Rob Hudson and Martin Price, they all managed the technical course without difficulty.
All the youngsters figured well in the final results with the highlight being Megan Hoylewho finished third in the girl’s U12 event; a fantastic result for her first ever race.
Calder Clarion had representation throughout the day fielding riders in the Seniors and the Veterans categories and with the event being blessed with fine weather, it was a good days racing enjoyed by all with the exception of Go-Ride coach Martin Price who collided with a tree on lap 2 which and was forced to retire.
WELL DONE to all rider, especially the ones racing for the 1st time
