The Calder Clarion Cycling Club has a number of annual awards to recognise achievements by members. These include competitive events / series, as well as non-competitive achievements.
The Presidents Cup
This special cup is awarded solely at the discretion and selection of the club president, and is aimed to recognise significant contribution to the club, its members and/or its associated community.
The Lewis Smith Memorial Trophy
One of our special trophies awarded by the committee in recognition for contribution to the club or achievement by a club rider. This trophy was provided to the club by the family of Lewis Smith, a young rider and aspiring talented racer who sadly lost his life shortly before his 18th birthday in 2021. Lewis was an inspirational rider who consistently went out of his way to help and encourage many riders across the club both young and old. He is still very much missed by his clubmates, and this trophy is awarded to the rider who the committee feels most embodies the values Lewis demonstrated.
10 Mile Ladies TT Trophy
Awarded to the highest placed female club rider at the designated 10 mile TT event “championship” each year.
10 Mile Junior TT Trophy
Awarded to the highest placed junior club rider at the designated 10 mile TT event “championship” each year.

25 Mile TT Trophy
Awarded to the highest placed club rider at the designated 25 mile TT event “championship” each year.
New Years Day 5 Mile TT Trophy
Awarded to the fastest rider at the annual New Years Day 5 Mile TT. This (very early season!) event is a fun way to kick off the year and ride off the excesses of the festive season. Some riders take it seriously, others have a more relaxed approach – so you’re as likely to see entrants in fancy dress as you are in a skinsuit.
Clifford Kettlewell Memorial Trophy
Awarded to the fastest rider at the first club 10 mile TT event of the season held at the start of May.
Ways Week Trophy
During the 17 week summary 10 Mile TT series held by the club, one week in June is the “Ways Week”, and the club winner on that week is awarded this trophy. The trophy was originally given by Wakefield Council.
Sturgess Cup
The club holds 17 ten mile time trial events each year between the start of May and the end of August. Club members who take part and post a time will be awarded points between 1 and 60 each week. 60 points are awarded to the ‘lead’ rider each week, 59 points to ‘2nd’ etc. However, the relative positions are determined by a handicap system, effectively rewarding a riders consistency and improvement against their own best times. More information on how this is calculated can be found in the Results section – https://calderclarion.co.uk/sturgess-explained/
Albert Denbigh Memorial Shield for Special Achievement
Awarded to recognise special achievements by a rider in the year.
Audax Trophy

The West Riding Wheelers Coronation Trophy
Awarded for the Best All Rounder of our Junior Riders – taken across the different competitive events entered. This is the “FA Cup” of our club trophies – you really need to see it in person to appreciate how big it is, and our junior winners often need help carrying it!
