C2C under 15 hours – 8th June
Martin Price will do his best to arrange a following wind for the Calder 2013 annual C2C rides between Sunderland and Whitehaven.
This year, In addition to the ride which aims to complete in under 12 hours, there’s one which is targeting a sub 15 hour ride. Sub 12 hours is a Gold Standard ride and sub 15 hours is a Silver. Completing it outside 16 hours is worth a bronze Standard.
The rides are open to all Calder members and Martin needs participants to confirm before the end of April so he can sort out the logistics.Martin usually waits until he’s fairly sure which way the wind will blow before deciding to start on the East or West Coast, but whichever way, the route has to negotiate a series of remorseless climbs over the Northern Pennines including AllenHeads with Stanhope and Hartside at either end. Hartside is overlooked by England’s highest point outside the lake district, Cross Fell. Last year, in Mid May Cross Fell was covered in snow and the temperature as they climbed Hartside, which tops at 1,903 feet, was 2 degrees!
